Chipmunk by John Borrill
John is a well-known flier who lived for years in the lower Blue Mountains west of Sydney, but has now retired to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, and turned to electric scale as his abiding interest. John has been active in scale before with glow-powered projects, and made quite a mark in the gliding scene at one time. Many of you will know John as one-time manager of Kellett's Hobbies in Liverpool.
Well, John can't get over how powerful electric motors are now for their size. He has tried a range of different motors and aircraft. He turned up at the 1st South East Queensland Electric Fly-in held at PRAMS club in northern Brisbane with this magnificent Chipmunk, and took out model of the meeting. John built this model from the Airsail kit from New Zealand. This kit is meant for a .32-.46 size glow motor, so you can see that electric conversions are quite feasible, and it doesn't take a giant electric motor and lots of cells to do it. By-the-way, John added flaps to this model; a nice touch and very realistic when landing. Try a scale project yourself.
